What are cookies and similar technologies?
When you visit one of my sites, various types of data are stored locally on your device via your browser. The local storage of data can e.g. take place with the help of so-called cookies.
What are cookies?
A "cookie" (in swedish "kaka" or in polish "cziastko") is a small text file that the site you visit requests to save on your computer. A session cookie disappears automatically when you close your browser. A permanent cookie stores a text file on your device for a shorter or longer period after your visit (unless you delete these yourself).
What is local storage?
"Local storage" is another way for sites to store information and settings locally on your device. One difference to cookies is that the stored information is not automatically included in calls to the server.
What are trace calls?
Tracking calls are calls made by the browser in the background during your visit to my sites. The call is made to my server, or to one of my partners' servers. The calls usually contain information about the page you are visiting and information about what has happened during the visit to the page. Examples of such information are how long you have been on the page, how long any video on the page has been played and whether advertisements have been visible. In order to be able to draw conclusions about what happened over several page views, cookies and locally stored data can be sent with tracking calls. Tracking calls are often called tracking pixels or web beacons, as they often take the form of loading a small invisible image or in the form of AJAX calls.
What are mobile identifiers?
A mobile identifier is a unique identifier that can be used to identify a mobile device and works in much the same way as a cookie. On your mobile device, your operating system may provide you with options to opt out of personalized advertising or otherwise reset your mobile identifiers.
How do I use cookies and similar technologies, and personal data linked to this?
Cookies and similar technologies are used for several different purposes, which I describe in more detail below, and in connection with this, certain personal data may also be processed. When you browse my sites, I can process your IP address and information about your device, for example whether you are browsing on a mobile or computer and which browser you use, operating system, screen size and information about which software configurations and language settings you use. I also collect data about how you navigate and use my sites, such as which parts of my pages you visited, clicks and reading time.
In some cases, I can use special measurement technology to link the data I collect via different devices you use when you visit my sites in order to achieve relevance in customized advertisements on my sites. I may also collect information from vendors that help us determine geographic locations based on IP address.
Necessary cookies/techniques
These cookies and technologies make the site work safely and correctly, and the site cannot therefore function properly without them. This category also includes cookies/technologies used to save your cookie choices.
Functional cookies/techniques
These cookies and technologies make it possible to provide enhanced functionality and personalization on the website.
Analysis & development
These cookies and technologies are used to produce statistics on visits to the site in order to optimize its navigation and content. Through various measurement tools, I can collect statistics on how my sites are used. This helps us develop and improve the experience for you as a user. I use, among other things, Google Analytics to follow and analyze reading over time. I also use collected data to produce statistics and analyzes regarding my business operations. I use this information to be able to make well-founded business decisions and plan future strategies for the business. I use anonymized data as far as possible for this purpose.
Customize marketing and content
These cookies and technologies are used to be able to customize offers and content on the site, based on what you have read or vieId previously on my site.
Marketing on other platforms
I use tools such as Google Ads to be able to market ourselves on other platforms, such as Google. Using these tools, I can show you more relevant marketing on Google and other platforms, based on your behavior on my site. I can also measure and follow up the outcome and effect of the advertising, and follow which ads and keywords led to conversions. It helps us target my marketing to the right people and make relevant ads.
External content/technology (e.g. social media, video and audio)
I, Michael Lewicki, embed external content and technology from other media as part of the blog's content, and to enable certain features provided by external partners. Examples of this could be content from social media, audio or video players.
Advertising
I and my advertisers, advertising agencies and other partners use cookies and technologies to be able to deliver ads on my sites, to measure how many users have seen an ad or to customize which ads you are exposed to. When you visit my sites, some of the cookies I place on your computer will be advertising cookies, which are specifically intended to remember how you navigate the web and which sites you visit in order to make the advertisements more relevant and effective.
A full list of the cookies and technologies I use can be found here.
I may also use information about IP address and the use of my sites to protect my platform, for example to prevent or stop an attack on my systems or networks.
Cookies and technologies that are necessary for the site to function properly or to manage your cookie choices are always enabled. For other cookies and technologies, I always ask for your consent. The data collected using cookies/techniques is normally processed based on my legitimate interest as a legal basis. However, for certain personal data processing, I and my partners ask for your consent. Read more by clicking on "Customize cookies" on the site.

Security for your personal data
I use a range of security technologies and security practices to protect your personal information from unwanted access, use and disclosure. I require my suppliers to ensure that the processing takes place in accordance with this policy and my security procedures.
Where I store and process personal data
I primarily process personal data within the EU/EEA, but in some cases I use suppliers who process personal data in the USA and other countries outside the EU/EEA, e.g. for development and maintenance of my systems and for web analysis. Countries outside the EU/EEA do not always recognize equivalent protection for personal data as countries within the EU/EEA. It is therefore required that special protective measures be taken when personal data is processed outside the EU/EEA. In cases where I use suppliers who process personal data outside the EU/EEA, it is on condition that I have support according to law, e.g. by the fact that I have entered into standardized contractual clauses with the recipient of the data that have been approved by the European Commission.
There are three different sets of standard contract clauses. You can find them all on the European Commission's website: https://ec.europa.eu/info/law/law-topic/data-protection/international-dimension-data-protection/standard-contractual-clauses-scc_en
I especially want to inform you that I use the analysis tool Google Analytics. Google Analytics stores data on my behalf in several countries, including the United States. You can find more information about Google's data centers and where they are located here: https://www.google.com/about/datacenters/locations/. Google, in turn, uses different sub-agents that process data in different countries. More information about these subprocessors and where they are located can be found here: https://privacy.google.com/businesses/subprocessors/
The standard contractual clauses that apply when I use Google services can be found here: https://privacy.google.com/businesses/processorterms/mccs/
